Xiling Gorge

The Xiling Gorge is a gorge on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province. It is the easternmost and largest of the Three Gorges. The gorge owes its name to Mount Xiling, a peak located at the eastern end of the gorge, and has received this name at least since the Three Kingdoms period, when it is recorded in the geographical treatise Shui Jing Zhu. There are three cities along the Xiling Gorge, which are Badong, Zigui and Yichang. And the Three Gorges Dam comes right in front of the gorge.

Xiling Gorge Pass is located in the western suburbs of Yichang City, 4 kilometers from the center of Yichang, 20 kilometers from the Three Gorges International Airport and 5 kilometers from Yichang Railway Station, very convenient . The scenic area starts from the Gezhouba Dam in the east and reaches the Three Gorges Dam in the west, with a total area of 142 square kilometers. Xiling Gorge enjoys a fame as "the gateway of the Three Gorges, the key to Sichuan and Hubei". Due to the unique location and rich tourism resources, it becomes one of the top ten scenic spots in China and ranks first among the forty best scenic spots in China.

Xiling Gorge is famous for its rugged beaches, fast-flowing streams and unique long mountains. In the gorge there are some tourist attractions such as Bingshu Baojian Gorge, Niugan Mafei Gorge, Huangniu Gorge, Dengying Gorge, etc. In addition to the natural sights mentioned above, there are many historical buildings along the Xiling Gorge, including Huangling Temple which was first built during the Three Kingdoms period more than 1,800 years ago, Quyuan Ancestral Hall, which commemorates the great patriotic poet in ancient times, and Wangzhaojun Former Residence.
