Shanghai Former French Concession

As a popular destination among foreign tourists, Shanghai has many peculiar attractions, among them the Former French Concession, with a long history, occupies a special place on the travel list. The Former French Concession is very popular and known as a preferred residence for expatriates.

Highlights of the Former French Concession

One of the most typical characteristics of the Former French Concession is its beautiful tree-lined avenues, they are sunny, modern and attractive. Tree-lined streets and 1920s chalets combine with decorative blocks, elegant restaurants and bars. When you're at the concession, you can't miss cafes, trendy restaurants, bars, breweries, boutiques, art galleries, and antique shops. It is advisable to take a brisk walk to have coffee and a plate of sausages.

Attractions of Former French Concession

We recommend some very interesting streets, such as Wukang Street, Wulumuqi Street, Fuxing Street, Xinle Street, etc. Wukang Street is a beautiful, picturesque and pretty street, with many outdoor cafes, you would almost feel like you are walking somewhere of Europe. Stop by this little open-air cafe on this street for a quick coffee and a plate of sausages to snack on. Also, you can't miss Ferguson Lane, located at 376 Wukang Street. It is a charming pedestrian space with open-air restaurants and bars to taste wines and tapas. If you want to visit some original art shops, there are a couple of very nice ones on Fuxing Street. Go give it a try and who knows what treasures you'll find. There are pop-up art galleries here from time to time, which are quite impressive. At the intersection of Fuxing Street and Huaihai Street stands a Wukang Building, formerly called the Normandy Apartment, built in 1924, it is an impressive construction in the art deco style. Stare at it for a while and you will be transported to another era. There are many art deco buildings in the city, but this one is reputed to be haunted. Stare at it for a while and you will be transported back in time.

In addition to the streets mentioned above, Yongfu Street, Hengshan Street, Donping Street and Yueyang Street are the places worth visiting. They are full of bars and nightclubs where you can relax. If you are interested in high-end fashion boutiques, visit Xinle Street and Changle Street. Historical and beautiful houses are also found on these streets. If you are hungry, take a stroll along Anfu Street or Julu Street, where there are many local restaurants where you can taste different tasty foods, as well as fine restaurants for whatever type of cuisine you prefer.
