People's Park, Chengdu

People's Park, originally called Shaocheng Park, was built in 1911 and is one of the first modern parks in China, as well as the first modern park in Sichuan. It is located on Shaocheng Street, Ci Tang Street, Chengdu Urban Area, near Tianfu Square. It was built by General Yu Kun to solve the living problems of Qing residents and by the governor of Sichuan to boost economic development. It has witnessed the transformation of Chengdu from a small city to a metropolis, and has carried the dreams and hopes of the people of Chengdu. People's Park covers 112,639 square meters (approximately 169 acres) and includes famous tourist attractions such as Jinshui Stream, Jinyu Island and Bonsai Garden. Jinshui Stream is a clear and transparent stream that runs past historical sites such as the House of Du Fu and Wenshu Temple. Jinyu Island is a small island with Tang-style pavilions and various trees and flowers. It is the former residence and place of creation of Du Fu, a famous poet in the history of Chinese literature. Du Fu lived here for almost four years and wrote more than 240 poems. Here he wrote many moving poems, such as "Hope of Spring", "Climb" and "Farewell". He also made many like-minded friends here, such as Wei Zhuang, Wang Wei, etc. He spent some of the most difficult and happiest times of his life here.
