Best time to travel to Dali

Dali is famous for the picturesque landscapes of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. At the same time she also enjoys a very high fame for the four great scenes, namely the wind of Xiaguan, the flowers of Shangguan, the snow of Cangshan Mountain and the moon of Erhai Lake. As one of the most famous tourist destinations in Yunnan Province, Dali is rich in historical and natural relics. It has brilliant history, unique national culture and magnificent landscapes. It has become a popular tourist destination at home and abroad. It has won the title of "China's Excellent Tourism City", "China's Most Captivating City" and "China Cultural Tourism County", "One of China's Top Ten Tourist Cities", "Charming City" International Cultural Tourism and Leisure". In this article we talk about the weather and geography of Dali, therefore tourists can choose a better time to travel to the beautiful city.

Dali City is located in western Yunnan Province, about 250 km northwest of the provincial capital Kunming. Dali is located in the transition zone between the spectacular valleys of the Hengduan mountain range, at the eastern end of the Tibetan plateau, and the distinctive mountains of the western Yungui plateau. The county city surrounds Erhai Lake, between Cangshan Mountain to the west and Mount Jizu to the east. The county capital, Xiaguan, is located at the mouth of the Lake into the Yangbi River. Dali Ancient City is located on a fertile plain between the Cang and Erhai mountain ranges. This plain has traditionally been populated by the Bai and Yi minorities.

Due to its low latitude and high altitude, Dali has a temperate subtropical mountain climate, with short, mild, dry winters and hot, rainy summers. In winter frost can occur, but days usually reach 16°C or more. During summer, most days experience some rainfall and daytime temperatures rise to 25°C. Most of the year's precipitation occurs between June and October. Since Dali's climate does not change much in different seasons, tourists can wear simple clothes from spring to mid-autumn. The day-to-day temperature variation is usually greater than the seasonal temperature variation, so wear a jacket or sweater earlier in the morning and some warm clothing for cooler nights. Additionally, because Dali is located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, when taking a trip here, be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to avoid damage from the powerful ultraviolet radiation.

In spring the trees and flowers tend to be colorful and in bloom. You can relax in the first days of spring and have a good start to the year. Summer in Dali is in its rainy season. It is better to pay attention to the strong sunlight that may cause discomfort to the skin. They have to carry umbrellas with them. Autumn in Dali is very cool and also a peak season for Chinese domestic tourists. During this period, tourists should be careful about the temperature difference during the day and night. Short-sleeved cloths during the day and a jacket at night will be best. Winter in Dali is a dry season with strong sunshine. It is a low travel season, so hotel rates are comparatively lower than other months of the year.
