Shanghai Transportation: How to Get There and How to Travel Around

Shanghai is the largest city and an important transportation hub of northeast China, and getting to and around Shanghai couldn't be easier.

There are two international airports in Shanghai connecting overseas cities like New York and London. The city also has high-speed railways that connect it to travel destinations across China. Shanghai's transportation system is highly efficient, including an extensive subway network, as well as city buses and taxis.

Because transportation in Shanghai is so convenient, if you're planning your first visit to China, selecting Shanghai as one of your destinations is highly recommended.

How to Get to Shanghai?

By Air

There are two operating international airports in Shanghai: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Among them, PVG serves most of the international flights between important cities in America and Europe, while SHA serves most of the domestic flights and flights from Japan and Korea.

Getting to Shanghai City from Shanghai Pudong International Airport:

Airport Shuttle Bus: These buses go to different locations in the city, including Hongqiao Airport and the city center.

Taxis: You can find plenty of taxis waiting outside the Arrivals Hall.

Getting to Shanghai City from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport:

Subway: Take Lines 2 and 10.

Airport Shuttle Bus: These buses provide convenient transportation to various parts of the city.

Taxis: You can find taxis waiting outside the Arrivals Hall.

Traveling Between Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport:

Private Transfer Service:

For a stress-free arrival, consider our private transfer service. You'll be picked up by a driver in a private car, no matter what time you land in Shanghai (even when the subway and buses are not available at night). This is our most recommended option.
