China Visa-Free Policies for 2025 (Updated Oct. 20th, 2025)

China continues to implement multiple visa-free policies in 2025 to facilitate tourism. Travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and many other countries can now visit China without a visa. This is an excellent opportunity to explore China's rich culture and stunning landscapes. Please check if you meet the visa-free requirements and discover what you can do during your stay.

30-Day Visa-Free Policy

Citizens of the following countries (listed by continent and alphabetically) can enjoy a 30-day unilateral visa-free entry to China:
  • Asia: Bahrain, Brunei, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia
  • Europe: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand
  • South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay
This policy is valid until the end of 2025. Holders of valid ordinary passports from the above countries entering China for business, tourism, visiting relatives/friends, exchanges, or transit are exempt from visa requirements.
Foreign travelers using this visa-free policy may stay in China continuously from the date of entry until 24:00 on the 30th calendar day. Currently, there are no restrictions on the number of entries or total days of stay.

240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Effective December 17, 2024, the previous 72-hour and 144-hour visa-free transit policies have been upgraded to a 240-hour visa-free transit policy. Currently, 60 ports in 24 Chinese provinces and cities implement this policy for citizens of 54 countries. Check the following conditions to see if you qualify:
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of one of the 54 eligible countries:
  • Asia: Brunei, Japan, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, United Arab Emirates
  • Europe: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom
  • North America: Canada, Mexico, United States
  • South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand
Documentation: Must hold a valid international travel document with a validity period of at least 3 months and meet the entry requirements for the onward destination (third country/region).
Travel Proof: Must possess a confirmed onward ticket to a third country/region with a fixed date and seat within 240 hours, complete a temporary entry card, and undergo inspection by border authorities.
Eligible travelers can apply for temporary entry procedures at the 60 designated ports. The visa-free stay period is calculated from 00:00 on the day following entry.

Approved Travel Regions under 240-Hour Transit

Travelers using the 240-hour visa-free transit can visit the following 24 provinces and cities:
Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi (Taiyuan, Datong), Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi (Nanchang, Jingdezhen), Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi (Nanning, Liuzhou, Guilin, and 6 other cities), Hainan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi

Making the Most of Your 240-Hour Transit

Important Note: The 240-hour period starts at 00:00 the day after you arrive. For example, if you enter China on May 1st, your visa-free stay begins on May 2nd, allowing you to stay until 24:00 on May 11th.

Explore China: A short visit to your transit city or nearby regions is a great option. In cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guilin, 1-3 days are usually sufficient to see the main attractions. Consider these suggested tours:

24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

All open ports in China implement a 24-hour visa-free transit policy for foreign nationals worldwide.
Foreigners holding valid international travel documents and confirmed onward tickets for international flights, ships, or trains can transit through China to a third country/region without a visa. This applies if their stay does not exceed 24 hours and they do not leave the designated port area. Those needing to leave the port must apply for a temporary entry permit.
