Morning: The Forbidden City (Palace Museum)
Today's highlight is the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. As the world's largest and best-preserved ancient wooden architectural complex, you'll walk along the central axis to visit core halls like the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Palace of Heavenly Purity, and the Imperial Garden, delving deep into ancient Chinese court architecture, rituals, and history.
Afternoon: Jingshan Park & Hutong Exploration
Exit the Forbidden City from the north gate (Shenwumen) and cross the street to Jingshan Park. Climb to the Wanchun Pavilion at the center for the best panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City and Beijing's historic central axis. Afterwards, we'll guide you through the hutongs of old Beijing. You can choose a rickshaw ride or a walking tour to experience authentic local life in the winding alleys, visit traditional courtyard homes (siheyuan), and feel the slow-paced warmth of old Beijing.
Attractions & Activities
Morning: Temple of Heaven
In the morning, visit another UNESCO site, the Temple of Heaven. This was the sacred altar where Ming and Qing emperors performed ceremonies to pray for good harvests. We'll see its iconic structures: the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Imperial Vault of Heaven, and the Circular Mound Altar, appreciating the ""harmony between heaven and man"" philosophy embodied in the architecture.
Afternoon: Mutianyu Great Wall
In the afternoon, take a drive (approx. 1.5-2 hours) northeast to the Mutianyu Great Wall. Renowned for its beautiful scenery, lush greenery, and dense watchtowers, this section is well-developed and less crowded. You can take a cable car or chairlift up for an easier ascent, then enjoy a walk on the wall, marveling at the magnificent views of the Yanshan Mountains and feeling the grandeur of this human wonder.
Attractions & Activities
Full Day: Summer Palace (including boat cruise)
Immerse yourself for a full day in the lakeside beauty of the UNESCO-listed Summer Palace, the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China, often called the "Museum of Royal Gardens".
Morning: Enter from the East Palace Gate to see the royal living quarters like the Hall of Benevolence and Longevity and Leshou Hall, then stroll along the famous Long Corridor to admire its painted beams.
Core Experience: At the Kunming Lake pier, we will board a cruise boat for the best view of the reflections of Longevity Hill and the Tower of Buddhist Incense, recreating the royal leisurely boat rides.
