Why visit here?
Visit Yufeng Temple and its thousand-year-old camellia tree with 20,000 flowers. The moving story of the guardian monk and the Tibetan-Naxi fusion await you.
Yufeng Temple, located on the slopes of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, is a Tibetan-style monastery founded in the late 18th century. Its architecture combines elements of Tibetan Buddhism with traditional Naxi aesthetics, creating a sacred space unique to Lijiang.
The soul of the temple is its famous five-century-old camellia, known as the Ten Thousand Flower Tree. Every spring, between February and April, its thousands of crimson flowers bloom in succession, completely covering the courtyard pergola. The image of its petals against the eternal snow of Jade Dragon is one of Yunnan's most treasured postcard views.
The legend of the temple lives on in its former guardian, a monk who devoted more than thirty years to caring for this camellia. His story of silent devotion has touched travelers from all over the world, turning the tree into a symbol of love and devotion.
The grounds also house valuable bronze Buddha statues, prayer wheels, and colorful Tibetan murals. Far from the hustle and bustle of the ancient city, Yufeng offers an intimate spiritual experience, where the ringing of bells accompanies the flight of red petals.
